Zettelkasten is a system of note-taking and [[Personal knowledge management (system)]]. It creates a linked network of atomic ideas expressed in one's own words.
It's not just an archive of information. Rather, it's value is in the interlinked connections between ideas and the serendipity and creativity of knowledge that produces.
Zettelkasten is German for "slip box."
It was popularized by Niklas Luhmann (1927-1998) — a prolific sociologist who credited this method.
